Restaurant cleaning jobs don’t require a lot of education. That doesn’t mean you can slack on your resume. Here are some things employers look for. You can add these to your resume or mention them during an interview.
You’ll increase your chances of getting the job you want!
1. Steady job experience
The biggest thing most employers look for is your ability to hold down a job for more than six months. A history of steady jobs proves that you show up on time and are willing to work.
Having positive references helps too. If you’re able to list your supervisors or other members of management, it’ll help speak for your character and dedication.
2. Cleaning duties in prior jobs
When making your resume, be sure to consider all of the responsibilities you’ve had at previous jobs. Most retail, office, and food service jobs involve occasional cleaning duties.
Be sure to list those on your resume to show that you’re qualified and experienced for the restaurant job you want.
3. Heavy lifting
While it might seem basic, mentioning that you can lift 60 or 70 pounds is actually helpful. Janitorial work involves using cleaning apparatuses that can weigh a lot. At most restaurants, cleaning staff is also expected to help move around heavy objects when necessary.
By listing this under your skills on your resume, you can help prove that you know what’s expected of you.
4. Teamwork
Try to show off your capabilities as a team player on your resume. You can do this by listing team duties from your previous jobs or highlighting it under your skills.
Most cleaning jobs involve cooperation with other staff and working with management, so anything that shows you can work as a team is a plus.
5. Customize to the job description
Each restaurant cleaning job is different. You won’t find employment by sending out the same generic resume. Read each job description and customize your resume to include all of the unique things each restaurant is looking for.
The above tips will only cover the basics. Most jobs will mention a specific thing or two that will really make your resume pop and prove that you’re the ideal candidate for the job.
Persistence is key
Even with all of these tips, you might not land the first restaurant cleaning job you apply to. Finding employment is all about patience and persistence. Try to apply to as many jobs as you can.
Don’t give up! Hiring directors are always looking for motivated, dedicated individuals to join their team. With a bit of persistence, you’ll give yourself lots of opportunities to find the job you want.
